The Truth Behind
Child Labor
Partner Exhibit
Process Paper
Why we chose our topic:
Once we found out the theme of this year’s history fair, we began to think about all the options we could do. we were originally thinking about doing it on the Industrial Revolution, but that topic was too vague. We needed to narrow it down. We researched some effects of the Industrial Revolution, and we came up with child labor. After reading about this issue a little more, we made up my mind and chose it as our topic.
How we conducted our research:
At first we went on my school district’s website, and went on the recommended internet sources to do some research. After we conducted some research on some reliable sources. We also went to the public library and looked for some helpful books. We tried our best to look for some primary sources, and we found a website with the original pictures of Lewis W. Hine, a famous photographer that captured the truth of child labor with his camera. After that all the notes we took from all the sources we had, we put them together and started to figure out what I would need. The pictures I gathered were important also because it includes information needed for our project. We made an outline of all of my information and began to work on the exhibit.
How we created our presentation:
We chose to do a website to show all of the hard work we did, but keeping it simple. We created topics of the work using pictures, so we can explain our information using the pictures instead of using too much wordiness. We then decided which pictures we were going to use, the captions that would go along with them, and the information we put on it. After that we drafted everything out on the font and size we wanted. Then we made a list of where we were going to place all the items on the website. Once we were sure of the placement, and got good opinions from different eyes we finalized our website.
How our project relates to the theme:
Child labor ties in with the theme because it was a change to the Industrial Revolution and poverty. It was also a turning point in history because it made an impact and changed the United States working industry. Once child labor began less and less children were educated. Even though they were trying to help their families, the effects were horrible. This led to many health, economical, and social problems.
